Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third daughter of their family. Ruth was a small child when her father, who was employed as the carnival barker, passed away. The mother of the family had to perform tasks such as waitressing and cleaning. Ruth attended school, and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. Following only two school years she left for an acting career. The path she chose was filled with challenges. After obtaining a position at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she had a difficult time trying to get jobs on stage. As a hat check girl at a nightclub she resigned and went back to Boston. It was the New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a regular actor. The company paid her performing during the daytime as an usherette. She has also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
